Eurostarlets #34: Pier Angeli

Pretty Italian starlet Pier Angeli (Anna Maria Pierangeli) opposite Telly Savalas in an original still from the enjoyable, though historically incorrect, World War II epic, Battle of the Bulge (1965). Once married to fav composer Armando Trovajoli, Pier Angeli has an interesting genre resumé made up of various eurospy adventures, euroswashbucklers, the Silvio Amadio eurowestern, Per Mille Dollari al Giorno (1968), Fernando di Leo's eurowar adventure, Rose Rosse per il Fuhrer (1968), an early polizeischi, La Vera Storia di Frank Mannata (1969) and, of course, Sergio Bergonzelli's weird giallo, Nelle Pieghe della Carne (In the Folds of the Flesh, 1970). Eurostarlets #32: Jennifer Connelly

Pretty Jennifer Connelly in two original stills from Dario Argento's fabulous Phenomena (1984). I simply love this film, I actually grew up with it (I was 15 when it was released and I got to see it, luckily for us Europeans in the original uncut version) and it has always remained one of my personal favorites. It was the first Argento I ever saw and I totally fell in love with his style and visuals and, of course, Claudio Simonetti's haunting themes. 

Eurostarlets #31: Sophie Hardy

Lovely French starlet Sophie Hardy in a full-page Ciné-Revue image. Sophie Hardy is known to genre fans for her appearances in Max Pécas's La Baie du Désir (1964), Jesus Franco's Cartes Sur Tables and two German Edgar Wallace Krimi, Der Hexer (1964) and Das Geheimnis der Weissen Nonne (1966 - The Trygon Factor). She often has a stripclub or bathroom scene, revealing her considerable charms. Check out my post on Sophie's shower in Der Hexer here. She also appeared in Don Sharp's A Taste of Excitement (1970) with Eva Renzi.

Eurostarlets #30: Pamela Tiffin

Gorgeous Pamela Tiffin in a full-page Angelo Frontoni image from vintage magazine Ciné-Revue. She is best known as Franco Nero's girlfriend Lu Auer in Luigi Bazzoni's stunning giallo, Giornata Nera per l'Ariete (The Fifth Cord - 1971). In 1972, she appeared once more opposite Nero in Paolo Cavara's eurowestern, Los Amigos, as Suzie, a prostitute.

Eurostarlets #28: Ida Galli

Lovely Ida Galli, often credited as Evelyn Stewart, in an original still from Giorgio Stegani's 1965 eurowestern, Adios Gringo. An early spaghetti western, this is beautifully shot by cinematographer Francisco Sempere, whose superb evocation of atmosphere can also be admired in Jorge Grau's stunning No Profanar el Sueno de los Muertos (1974 - Let Sleeping Corpses Lie - The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue). Among his other credits are Eugenio Martin's obscure creepy dummy movie, Ipnosi (1962) and one of Boris Karloff's last films, El Coleccionista de Cadaveres.

At one time Silvia was married to genre director Ruggero Deodato, they also made some movies together. Her sister Sofia also acts, often credited as Flavia Fabiani. I will soon do a post of the two of them together.

Full-page Frontoni image of lovely Gloria Guida from Ciné-Revue. Quintessential genre actress who appeared primarily in Commedia Sexy all'Italiana. She was also Miss Teenage Italia in 1974.

Eurostarlets #021: Julie Ege

Norwegian starlet Julie Ege on the cover of Stars System (issue #9 - January 1977). Apart from appearing as the Scandinavian Bond Girl in On her Majesty's Secret Service (1969), the former Miss Norway, Miss Universe and Penhouse pet was a regular feature in early 1970s UK horrors such as Creatures the World Forgot (1971), The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires (1973), Craze (1973), The Final Programme (1973) and The Mutations (1973).

Sex Stars System was a French film magazine dedicated to the nude and erotic aspects of generally non-mainstream cinema. 18 monthly issues were released between 1975 and 1976 (the scheduled release of issue #19 is unconfirmed). In December 1976, the magazine's name was changed to Stars System, starting with a new enumeration. On the editorial board one finds Jean-Pierre Bouyxou, film critic, filmmaker, actor, writer and editor in chief (for 30 issues between 1978 and 1986) of the vintage erotica magazine, Fascination. Bouyxou also wrote, amongst others, for the French issues of Vampirella (the French issues focused on genre films between the regular comics) and Ciné-Girl which is similar in style to Sex Stars System. As a writer/actor Bouyxou also worked with Alain Payet, Jesus Franco and Jean Rollin. The style and mood of Rollin's 1979 film, Fascination was influenced by Bouyxou's erotica magazine of the same name.

Eurostarlets #020: Fabienne Dali

Lovely Fabienne Dali in Jean-Pierre Melville's marvelous Le Doulos (1962), a wonderfully moody evocation of classic Film Noir elements, from the shady criminals, ambiguous crooks and seductive femmes fatales to the amazing shadowy cinematography of dreary urban streets, shabby boarding houses, fancy nightclubs and neon-lit alleys.

Eurostarlets #019: Tania Busselier

Centre-page illustration from Belgian magazine Ciné-Revue, showing the enigmatic French starlet during her 1972 visit to the Film Festival of Cannes, France. She created quite a scandal as the audacious and ravishing pink baby doll she wore was completely translucent, hiding nothing of her considerable charms. She also caught the attention by arriving at the Palais des Festivals, in a barrage of flashing lightbulbs, on a white destrier. She was guided inside on the arm of Roland Lesaffre, Marcel Carné's favoured actor. Tania's appearance did not go unnoticed by the producers, who vied for the attention of the then Parisian Haute Couture model. Her remarkable entry at the Festival did not lead to stardom, although to genre fans she is considerably well known for her roles in Jesus Franco's movies, La Comtesse Perverse, Plaisir à Trois (both 1974) and Greta - Haus ohne Männer (1977), alongside numerous appearances in French erotic films, such as Le Tango de la Perversion (1974) with Joëlle Coeur and Jean Rollin's Douces Pénétrations (1976).

Eurostarlets #018: Anna Gaël

Adorable Anna Gaël as the French girl some soldiers encounter in an abandoned prison, in some images from John Guillermin's exciting 1969 war movie, The Bridge at Remagen. Gaël also appeared alongside Yutte Stensgaard, Valerie Léon and Brigitte Skay in the British sexy science fiction comedy, Zeta One (1969), opposite Oliver Reed in Blueblood (1973) and alongside Chris Lee in Edouard Molinaro's 1976 vampire comedy, Dracula Père et Fils.
