Lovely Fabienne Dali in Jean-Pierre Melville's marvelous Le Doulos (1962), a wonderfully moody evocation of classic Film Noir elements, from the shady criminals, ambiguous crooks and seductive femmes fatales to the amazing shadowy cinematography of dreary urban streets, shabby boarding houses, fancy nightclubs and neon-lit alleys.

Maigret Tend un Piege

As Commissaire Divisionnaire, Jules Maigret (Jean Gabin) is about to interrogate a possible suspect in a series of murders that plague Paris, a pretty woman peers through the door of the bathroom in the background. A glimpse of nudity in Jean Delannoy's 1958 George Simenon adaption, "Maigret Tend un Piège."

With his noirish night sequences, sweltering weather, crooked and winding Parisian backstreets, seedy bars, sordid boarding houses and crowded police stations, Delannoy manages to create a stiffling, suffocating and thoroughly enchanting atmosphere.
