Women in Prison (s)exploitation

Some Continental Film Review images from Brunello Rondi's 1974, Prigione di Donne (Sex Life in a Women's Prison/Riot in a Women's Prison and also known under the evocative French title, Pénitencier pour Femmes Perverses). This early Italian WIP effort - somewhat a companion piece to Rino di Silvestro's Diario Segreto da un Carcere Femminile from the same year - takes on a slight nunsploitation angle as most of the wardens in the film are nuns. The film features numerous gorgeous eurostarlets: Martine Brochard, Marilu Tolo, Erna Schürer, Katia Christine, Maria Pia Conte, Felicita Fani, Anna Melita and the lovely Cristina Galbo as an innocent young nun who has her habit ripped off during a riot.

Some panels from the French Photonovel of Rino di Silvestro's sleazy 1974 Diario Segreto da un Carcere Femminile (Women in Cell Block 7), featuring a veritable bevy of eurostarlets: Anita Strindberg, Eva Czemerys, Luciana della Robia (Jenny Tamburi), Christina Gaioni, Gabriella Giorgelli, Olga Bisera, Paola Senatore and Annie Carol Edel. A luridly entertaining mixture of sex and violence, all the requisite elements are present with the lesbian encounters, the shower sequence, the examination and various elements of sadistic and sleazy violence...

Some early Women in Prison nudity

It is quite remarkable how the French always managed to spice up their movies with a spot of naked female flesh during the 1950s, whether it is a Maigret mystery, an exotic adventure, an historical epic or, in the case of Maurice Cloche's 1958 Prisons de Femmes, an early Women in Prison exploitationer. Here are some evocative images from the vintage magazine, Playcinema.

It is refreshing to keeping coming across these movies that show how  these filmmakers were so much less inhibited  - and of course, less restricted by censorship, concerning nudity during the 1940s and 1950s.
