Natural Light | heathharder

I chose John Moran as my photographer. I was drawn to his book, Journal of Light: The Visual Diary of a Florida Nature Photographer, because of its beauty in simple aspects of nature and richness in elements such as color and pattern.

Moran is employed to take photographs just like the ones in his book, photos of Floridian nature. When he takes pictures of animals, it is not for the element of cuteness. He's telling their story, just like street photographers tell human stories. I really like that; I find it inspiring to see a person who does such a great job of telling the stories of nature and animals, and I find Moran's photos inspiring for their awe-factor of brilliance, and often, their emotional impact.

What I really like about Moran is that he doesn't limit his nature photos to scenery and animals; when human fit into his scenes, he captures them with his lens too. I don't think there's anything wrong with taking photos of things just because you find them pretty, but I think Moran does it the "right" way, which is by experimenting with how those pictures are taking by changing things like angles, time of day and focus.

Here are a few examples of his photos I like the best:

Coreopsis Heaven

I like the vibrant colors & how he captured the image at just that moment to get the sun peeping over the hill.                                               A Place Apart

…………………………………………………………….I love the way the trees and horse are                   ……………………………………………………………silhouettes. The horse looks lonely, yet …………………………………………………………….independent at the same time. Someone else ……………………………………………………………might have put a human there instead, but I …………………………………………………………….think the horse is somehow a more powerful …………………………………………………………….image.
