Kirby and I entered the Elk Lake fishing derby this past Saturday in Victoria. Good times. This lake is fantastic. Large mouth bass, small mouth bass and rainbows can be caught. 270 Adults entered the derby and 70 kids. The top 10 largest trout won prizes, the grand prize being $1000. Other prizes for the trout category included lowrance fish finder, islander reel, custom rods etc. There was also $100 for the largest bass plus prizes for the top three fish.
On top of that the gave away about a dozen other excellent prizes including $1000 pontoon boat, a 12ft lowe flat bottom on a trailer with a 4hp motor, $1200 fishing trip to port renfrew including accomodation, and the list goes on. As for the fishing, I picked up two fish in the first 20 minutes but after that only had a couple of hits. Kirby on the other hand only had one fish on but it was a lurker. Thought it might be a big bass but we didn't even have a chance to see it since it just peeled line off his reel and then shook off.
The largest trout caught for the day was over 3 lbs. The largest bass was over 4 lbs. All in all a great experience and a definate must next year.
Great prizes good times. They even deliver smokies right to your boat.
